~Inspiring . Beautiful . Unvalidated~

Much to the disdain of high-browed purists, the first edition of art in unexpected places e-zine is out now.

As you may have already guessed, we feel art is not and should not be confined to the polished interiors and ochre walls of galleries and museums.

Just because an artist chose a bathroom wall in a dingy city bar to express his creativity, does not make it any less worthy of appreciation.

We like to think that a sometimes covert spray paint job on the back of someone's truck that makes you take notice is art.

AIM

Each month we look at a city covered in avant-garde, free-form art — art that tells a story most glossy travel books shy away from.

We believe graffiti is one of the most easily available guides to a city subculture, yet the underlying messages of frustration, love, happiness, strife and so on are invisible to the accustomed city eye.

To that end, every month, we tread along a city's underways, publics bars and toilets, pavements and sidewalks to bring you art/or even a heartfelt drunken scribble we find amusing.

THIS MONTH

There is no better way to kick start this e-mag than with the cutural capital of New Zealand, Auckland. Also, we happen to be in Auckland and a bit skint at the moment.

Bonus: Quirky Art, which looks at a strange race across the Indian subcontinent.
