Welcome to The Empty Skies Project. This website is the creation of Chris Harrowell, a graduate diploma in journalism student at AUT University in Auckland, New Zealand. This website is part of the assessment for New Media Journalism.

This website was designed to present atheism in a news-type format. There are interviews with an atheist and a believer in the Christian faith - both of whom are academics at the University of Auckland - summaries of famous atheists throughout history, a review of a prominent piece of atheist literature, links to atheist material on the web and much more.

Atheism is something I have had an interest in for a while. I consider the question of whether such a thing as "god" exists as the biggest or most important question in the history of humanity. Should evidence ever be found to end the debate in one way or another it would alter the course of human history for eternity, as well as change the way we look at what is already history.

It goes without saying that should it ever be proven that god does not exist a whole lot of people are going to be embarrassed - and probably feel a bit upset for having wasted so much time in pursuit of their faith - while people who do not believe in the existence of god could quite easily say they held that position due to a lack of evidence, which is understandable.

Those drawn to lives of faith do so for any number of reasons. They may have been raised in religious households, or had experiences which convince them in the existence of a higher power. No one reason for falling into faith is an argument for the existence of god. No lack of faith on a single person is an argument against the existence of god.

I am not sure it is an argument which will ever be settled. And possibly that is a good thing for the human race; as it will continue to make us debate, and argu, and theorise. As long as we can do so without resorting to violence against one another. Because that is probably one good argument against faith - that it is been a driving force for conflict since the dawn of time.

Having said all that, feel free to browse around! Thanks for visiting.
