    The Union of Myanmar - previously known as Burma - is
the largest country in South East Asia

    A member of the Association of Southeast
    Asian Nations (ASEAN) Myanmar is bordered
    by China (northeast), Laos (east), Thailand
    (southeast), Bangladesh (west), India (northwest)
    and the Bay of Bengal (southwest). The Andian
    Sea forms the southern coastline.

 

    Myanmar is divided into seven states - Chin State
    Kachin State, Kayah State, Kayin State, Mon State,
    Rakhine State, Shan State - and seven divisions -
    Ayeyarwady Division, Bago Division, Magway
    Division
, Mandalay Division, Sagaing Division,
    Tanintharyi Division, Yangopn Division.
    These are ethically divided, with the divisions
    constituting the BAMAR, while the states are
    primarily inhabited by the ethnic minorities
    represented in the State name.
